well i´m back to normal missionary schedule now so my pday will be mondays. last night i had my interview with the mission president and it went well. he told me some really cool stuff about life and my mission and it was great. he is a very Christ like person and i have learned so much from him. he really does love the lord.
i am now in a different area with zone leaders. i´ll miss elder galindo and elder connolly (especially because they didn't mind carrying the toilet paper we bought this week jaja jk) one is elder wadsworth. he´s from ogden and i finally have a companion who likes football so we get a long pretty well. i guess you could say we have a lot in common and  he likes to work out so that's good too. the other companion who is a zone leader as well is elder martinez. he´s from the dominican republic and is super cool tambien. he talks really fast spanish but doesn´t have the notorious dominican accent so i can understand him most of the time. luckily he speaks perfect english so that helps too. he´s also a really good singer. we call him chris brown. our new house is one of the nicest in the mission. it is huge!! we also have a washing machine so that is pretty nice too. it´s a way nice house but i have to keep most of my stuff in my suitcase because i´ll be going to a different area in a couple of weeks. but i´ll be glad to get my own area and my own comp when the time comes. this part of merida is a little poorer than the last area but that´s ok because the humble people are the ones that usually listen.

i had some cool things happen for the past couple of days. we were talking to some kids and we decided to give them a book of mormon and when we did, one of them was really interested in it and he immediately began to look through the book. so i kinda took him to the side and gave him a little part to read that night and he said well is it ok if i read more? jaja que potente es este muchacho! i probably won't ever see him again because he was in a different area but i know a seed was definitely planted. well he started reading the book right there in the street and i was super excited. i don´t know if he´ll stick with it, but i hope he does because the gospel will make his life so better even though he is young. i was really impressed with how interested he was in the book and it made me feel bad because sometimes i think i take all the extra scripture we have as latter-day saints for granted. then that sunday during my studies i read a cool part in the bom in alma where it describes the liahona and compares it to the words of Christ. it says that the words of Christ will take us to the direct path of happiness. it is such a good comparison because it´s exactly what the liahona did for lehi and his family. sometimes, however, they didn´t follow it or they weren't able to understand it all the time due to their shortcomings as human beings and so it ended up taking them longer to get to the promised land. as is with the book of mormon and the other scriptures. it's so easy. we have it right there:a map to happiness. it also talks about prayer in this chapter and i know that is an essential part as well. so i invite yáll to read the scriptures more often and really search them because they have the information that will get you to the direct path to happiness.

we also had a way good testimony meeting where we went over by 20 minutes. the members here are awesome and its cool because we are really involving the members in the work now. although some of them are brand new members, they still have their testimonies and although simple, they are super powerful and each time they share it, it gets stronger.

well it sounds like everything is going good at home. i hope you guys are enjoying the cool weather because i´m loving the sun! if you guys ever send anything out here, could you send me a pedometer. i´m curious to see how much we walk.

Janel's note:  Thank you so much for your love and support of Elder Coffman.
Per Elder Coffman's suggestion, at our discretion, he suggested leaving some  of the personal messages to our family members out of this blog, due to them not making sense with not hearing both ends of the conversation, but we're keeping these messages safely for him in his personal missionary memories.

hola!!!! well i´m here in mexico now and it feels so good to be out here again. even though it was more than a six months that i was home,it doesn´t seem much different. it as i´m going through the day, it doesn't seem like i was ever away from mexico because the work will always have the same proposito. the lords work will always push forward till it is finished and i think that is why i feel that way.  i feel like i´ve been out here the whole time until i look back and then i remember i was home yesterday haha. for that reason, i think i´ll just look forward from now. i´ll learn from the past, but i´ll live the moment to it´s fullest and plan for the future. well about my traveling, the flights all went well and all my luggage got here safe unlike last time so that was nice haha. i arrived in merida at about 9 pm and by the time i got through customs and immigration it was about 1030 when i left the airport. After that i was picked up by the missionaries. They are actually the ap´s so that is why i am writing to day. their p-days are on saturday. and i´m not sure how long i´ll be here. i thought i would go to the mission office first, but we just went straight to the house so idk what will happen but ni modo! i´m just glad to be out here again. there are 2 more weeks in that transfer so i´ll either finish up this transfer or they we'll change me to a different area in the next week.  anyways one of the missionaries was one of the elders that dropped me off at the airport last time. it was pretty good to see him again. his name is elder connolly. The other elder is elder galindo. he is from honduras and he was elder mills compa before me. They are both really good missionaries.

well we rode to our house which is in merida and on our way over we had some tacos. They were called gringas which we were pretty surprised at first because usually that means something bad, but they turned out to just be some super good tacos de pastor. we also drank some jamaica which was a lot better than the jamaica from el rey de oro (sorry pops) haha but anyways we got to our house and i was really surprised to see a bed!! so they did me the favor of giving me the bed to sleep in even though i would have rather slept in the hammock because it was so hot! but oh well it turned out to cool off during the night but i was still sweating most of the night haha. oh and also there was a cowboys blanket on it so that made it worse´(; jaja. its still super hot right now and i´m sweating as im righting

this letter but i´ll get used to it eventually. i´m just glad its winter time...if you can even call it winter haha. the only cold thing about this place is the water. before the water was always refreshing but now its just really coooold. i guess it´s alright though because it wakes you up real nice. ´over all I'm just so glad to be out here again. as i was doing my studies this morning, i read in alma 36 where he is telling his son about his conversion and i couldn´t help but put me in his place. yall should read it. i thought it was really interesting how right after he repented, alma told his son that one of the first things he wanted to do was to share the joy of the gospel. i think a lot of times we take the joy we have from living the gospel for granted. i would invite all of you to try to count the blessings you receive from the gospel and when you do, you´ll want to share them just like alma did and as i am doing now.

i love you all and i hope you all have a great week. idk if i´ll stay here for long and if i do leave then my email day will be monday again so yall can write by next monday and if i get to email then, ill have a message from you but if not then i´ll still be here in merida with the aps.

ps this is for daddy, but remember how you asked me if there are blenders in mexico right before i left? well there are haha we have one in our house. just thought i´d let you know.

MACHETES AND HAMMOCKS

Elder C and his machete!
Elder Coffman with Pres. & Sister Salinas - arrived in Merida 4/30/12
and this photo just arrived in Bountiful 7/2/12!
Elder C's hammock
Hi familia!  This week was good.  It’s weird because my companion is about to go home! He always tells me this opportunity to serve is so special and that he is going to miss it a lot.  So, this makes me want to work more so I don’t have regrets when the time comes!  It’s a good thing I still have a lot to go!  But, yeah, this week went really well. We had some people in the chapel yesterday and this always makes us happy. That’s really fun with the family reunion! I am going to look forward to seeing the photos of this. Do you already have a trailer? I love you a lot familia and thanks for all the things you have given me!

Mother, with the CDs and cameras, right now it is really hard to go to a electronics store because where we’re staying, there isn’t anything like that.  Also, it is virtually impossible right now to put the pictures on a CD so I am going to wait, but I would like to have another card if you can send me one.  With the quality of the pictures, that’s how they come out sometimes.  I don’t change anything in the camera, but sometimes yes they are lower quality.  That’s really good with your relief society class.  What you say is true.  And that little grandma I helped was a sister we found who had a lot of bags and we just helped her.  I love doing things like this – like small acts of service.  May you all search for opportunities like this familia!  Te quiero Mother.
Daddy, I remember last year with the sprinklers. That project we did was crazy!  And yes, there is a lot of cilantro.  Especially in a soup called frijol con puerco (Stephen’s note: bean with pork).  Also, there is something very common here which is called caldo.  It is almost the same as what you cook when you make a soup with vegetables and meat.  It’s good.  And you have lost 21 pounds? That’s great! I love you a lot Daddy and I hope you catch a lot of fish at the family reunion!
Michelle, I now have a story for you!  This week we were doing personal study, and my companion thought I did a stink, but I knew it wasn’t me and I thought it was him.  So, we were fighting a little, as a joke of course, but we still thought it was the other person.  Then, in the morning, it still smelled really bad, so we got mad again and suddenly, something came to my companion’s mind that something maybe had died, so we went outside of the house to check and we found a dead cat! jaja That’s cool with your class. It’s really important because the scriptures are a way to receive personal revelation. Try to follow those pieces of advice!  I love you.
Fox, how are you hermanito?  Your advice is great.  I am going to follow it and pray a lot.  Also, I liked that thing about the prophet.  It’s true.  Well, I love you a lot and I hope everything is going well.
Well, until next week familia!  When are you going to be in the mountains?  Are you still going to write me? jaja OK – adios and I love you all a lot!

BE AN EXAMPLE OF THE BELIEVERS

Elder Coffman serving an Abuelita - this photo needs to be in the Liahona!
"You can't be right by doing wrong, and you can't be wrong by doing right."
-President Thomas S. Monson

On a quarterly schedule, several Bountiful High alumni missionaries submit a message for a “newsletter” that is shared with all of the Elders. Here’s Elder Coffman’s contribution:
¡Hola mis companeros! how are y´all doing? I hope everything´s well with all you guys. everythings great out here in Cancun. It´s way hot and humid, and nothing like I expected it to be, but I´m loving it. The people are great and very loving and las hermans can cook very good! The gospel of Jesucristo is so important and i really am honored to share it with mis hermanos en Mexico. The mission has really opened up my eyes to how important it is to live the gospel and love everyone. hope y´all are having success and enjoying yourselves. And remember that obedience brings blessings, and exact obedience brings miracles.
Con Carino,
Elder Coffman
... and here is Elder Coffman’s email from the week of July 2, 2012:

¡Hola Familia!  Thanks for writing me every week.  It is already something I like a lot. jaja This week, I want to give you two challenges.  One is to try to be a good example of the Church.  Every one of you has taken upon yourself the name of Jesus Christ, and people are always watching you, wherever you are.  More importantly, our loving Heavenly Father is always watching as well, so, try to be a good example.  It is so important for those that don’t know the Gospel.  You can do miracles by your example.  We have a few investigators that aren’t too receptive because of the bad examples of the members of the Church, so, I’m not saying anything bad about you all, just be careful and always do what Jesus Christ would do.  Also, I want to give you the challenge to try to find less actives (in the ward, family members, etc…).  They need us, your testimonies, and service.  I know that you might be busy, but by small and simple things are great things brought to pass.  And the Lord is always going to bless you because you made sacrifices.  You all are great and I love you a lot!

Mother, that’s really cool with the letters!  I am going to wait for them! jaja Maybe I am going to send you all some things as well.  And yes, this card has all the pictures you still don’t have.  There isn’t anything from the hurricanes jaja  It was really a joke. jaja We are going to Mérida I think because it is where the mission offices are or something like that.  It is in the other side of the peninsula maybe, I’m not sure.  I can’t see the sea.  Actually, the majority of the missionaries never see the sea.  But I think I’m close, it’s just that there are a lot of buildings, and I can’t see it.  There isn’t anything special of which to take pictures here. Just the houses and the dogs in the street.  I don’t know when I can buy a new card, but I will.

Brother, that’s really cool with your efforts to be a missionary.  It is what I want to do as well.  This week was really hard because we had some of our recent converts not want anything anymore.  It is really sad because they were so happy and so dedicated to serve and everything, and I love them so much, they don’t want anything anymore.  What did you do when this happened to you?  Obviously we have to keep visiting them, but is there anything that is really good to do?  And were you a leader a lot in your mission?  Bye.

Sister, those bunnies remind me of Tiny, Oreo (it was an oreo, it was an oreo, it was an o. o . o. o o. oreo!) and Peach jajaja and Bandit is like Tiny!  But also there is a family that has bunnies as well and I thought of you when I saw them.  But a story for you….we found a picture of a girl that resembles you a lot.  Actually, it was in a Liahona that has the general conference talks. jaja I am going to find something better to say to you next week. jaja I promise you!

Daddy, jajaja That’s really funny with the fishing.  I hope you enjoy your service a lot!  And actually, fixing the cars with you is something I miss right now.  We see mechanics and it always reminds me of you.  But that’s cool you’re going to find all the jakes spinalures jaja However, I never missed anything.  It was always you. jajaja jk it was a joke.

"When it comes to hating, gossiping, ignoring, ridiculing, holding grudges or wanting to cause harm, please apply the following: stop it!"
-President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

¡Hola!  This week went very well.  I hope it was good for you all as well.  There was a lot of rain here jaja They say that there might be a hurricane but don’t worry.  If there is a hurricane, we are going to Mérida.  I like it to rain a lot here because when there is rain, it isn’t so hot.  I also love that quote from President Uchtdorf!  I love you all a lot familia.  I want you all to understand your relationships with our Heavenly Father and you can do this by studying His nature and the plan of salvation.  It can improve many aspects of your lives as you do it.

Mother, I have two memory cards, that’s it, one doesn’t work.  But the other one does work and I am using it right now.  I received your package in the mail last Monday.  Lilia’s girl has a girl who is four years old, and is going to be baptized when she is eight years old and we are going to work with the husband.  I am going to write something for the Newsletter next week.  If you want, I can buy a new card if you think it would be a good idea, but, for now, I don’t need another one. I love you Mother.

Michelle, That young women’s activity sounds very fun. jaja  I think you were very successful with the mechanical bull because you’re really strong. jaja  Bye hermanita.  I love you.

Brother, what you say is true.  We can learn a lot from these people.  I just didn’t realize it.  Thanks for telling me.  It’s something with which the mission has helped me a lot.  Before, I probably wouldn’t have had compassion for that man and I would just have judged him, but I now think I have more compassion and I am better at putting myself in their shoes.  By doing this, I can have more charity for people I think.  That’s the most important thing I can have.  It’s the miracle of the mission; actually, of the Gospel.  The gospel makes bad people good, and good people better.  Like, I still have A LOT I can improve, but the most important thing is that I’m still improving.  Once it was told to me that the staircase to heaven is a downward moving escalator, where you have to improve yourself every day or you go down, not up.  I hope this makes sense to you. jaja  Are you still doing missionary work?  And how are you doing it?  Bye and I love you.

¡Hola Daddy!  jaja Sometimes our days seem the same also, but what helps me is when I try to do new things through service.  But that’s good you went to that thing with the motorcycles.  Once I saw it with snowmobiles.  It was cool.  I remember that thing, but two completos, two dollars jaja

 _____________________________________

Lilia's Baptism - 6/12

Sister Sandra

Scaffolding aka Elder C's morning gymnasium!

¡Hola familia!  How be ye?  I am very well.  We had a baptism this week.  The sister’s name is Lilia.  She is really cool and has a little family.  Right now, just she is baptized, but with time, her husband will be baptized as well.  It will be great because salvation is personal, but exaltation is for the families!  I love you a lot familia.  Today is my birthday in the mission!  jaja  I now am five months old!  It’s awesome.  I love the mission.

os amo mucho familia y voy a enviar algunos fotos. adios
