Called to Serve

"Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work ... and faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualify him for the work." - D&C 4:3-5

hola familia. well this week was good. our bars still arent fixed but they will be i just pray a lot everynight and so far so good. we dont live in an appartment btw. we live in a house hahaha but yeah this week was actually really good as far as the work goes. we taught a lot of lessons. the only hard part is that our area is doing great but the rest of the zone is struggling i feel like i can do great things in my own area but now i need to help the zoon out as well. it will be pretty interesting to see what Elder Juassi and I come up with. we bought a football so we are going to play every morning. it will be pretty sweet. especially since i havent played for a while and i am sick of seeing so much soccer haha but as far as the work goes things are going great. well i guess i dont have a lot to write about. things are pretty tranquilo.
well could you guys send me the email of clark. id like to write him. and also dont forget to up´date me about the football. my comp got his updates on the donkeys and i couldnt do any smack talk because i couldnt say anything for the raiders. they probably lost anyways haha but yeah i guess that is that.

as far as an spiritual experience, we had a cool one last night when we were teaching a lady she was really interested but i felt kinda doubtful about if she would accept or not because she was talking about her Christain church a lot. well we invited her to repent and then we read a scripture that i had not planned to share before it is in Moroni 8 25-26. i was trying to find a way to connect repentance to baptism because she really wanted to repent but not so much on the baptism. i hadnt used this scripture before so i was kinda nervous but i felt impressed to share it. well it worked great because it was exactly what she needed. it said the thing like she needed to hear so i was glad i listend to the spirit. little things like that happen all the time. There are so many that i cant share them all.

well i guess i woud like to tell you guys to study mosiah and the story about the people of limhi and alma and the diference in how they were freed from there cautivityu. its in mosiah like 17 to 24 its a really good story. well i guess you gus would like to know that i told the horse joke as well haha my comp thought it was super funny....not haha i thought it was though.

well i love you guys a lot and remember that the most important duty is to do missionary work so always look for ways to share the gospel and use words when necessary. i love you guys and adios

mother my comp is from riverton. yeah his name is taylor pretty funny right. we hide the stuff in the folletos now because no one likes to read now. thats cool you got to take pics of trevor.  well i  love you a lot. we talked about mothers yesterday in church and they asked us to say something and i shared how you taught in primary and always sung the primary songs. love you lots

mc thats cool about the dance. always remember you are a beautiful daughter of God. all my comps say you are super pretty haha

love monkey hehe

daddy what happened with the scholarship. from what i was thinking, i might be home in late june if we can pull some strings for that. try and get those things signed up for as soon as possible because i dont want any problems. love you lots and dont worry about not writing i know you love me and i love you too.

adios

10/21/2013. HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY and A BREAK-IN

The Hermana Garcia made some cupcakes for my b-day and Elder Taylor gave me a pillow and tie.  The other elder is Elder Taylor Jaussie.  It was a pretty good b-day.

 19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where amoth and rust doth corrupt, and thieves break through and steal;

 20 But lay up for yourselves atreasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.

 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

this scripture took a whole new meaning for me this week. because this week our house was broken into. we got home at night and everything was thrown out and at first a thought we were just being pigs but then we turned on teh lights and someone had ripped the metal window protectors out of our walls and broken in through the windows. they didnt take much....just my camera  and all my fotos.......mother alert  mother alert mar mar mar mar......haha jk but he took a dvd player the mission gives us, my ipod and the speaker and some other little things like that it just helps me to rememer that what Jesus said is true. things we getin the world are corruptible and stealable. if that is a word and it doesnt matter if we get them. we need to get treasures ofthe heavens with us. now we might wonder how do we do that. well i think it has to do with 2 things. 1 is to learn more about the Gospel and the life of Jesus Christ so that our testimonies are strengthened and 2 is to serve otheres. we wished they would have taken some book of mormons but they didn{t haha there loss i guess. but there were some other things i learned from this incident. one was that we should do the following

43 And behold it is written also, that thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy;

44 But behold I say unto you, love your aenemies, bless them that curse you, do bgood to them that hate you, and cpray for them who despitefully use you and persecute you;

45 That ye may be the children of your Father who is in heaven; for he maketh his sun to rise aon the evil and on the good.

46 Therefore those things which were of old time, which were under the law, in me are all afulfilled.

47 aOld things are done away, and all things have become bnew.

48 Therefore I would that ye should be aperfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect.

so after we got home we said a prayer for the guy who robbed us and asked that he could use the things he stole to be able to provide for his family if that is why he stole it. more likely he  used it to buy drugs, but i liketo think the best of people and i know it s not good to judge so i hope he had some hungry kids at home that got a good meal haha but even so i prayed that he could listen to the inspriatino music on the ipod and feel the spirit and get converted someday haha also i learned that he need the stuff more than i did and that we should turn the other cheek as Jesus taught that if someone steals something from us, we should give him other things we have as well so we are not going to repair the window so that more people can break in and take the rest of our stuff.......haha jk. well i also learned that the most important thing over aall is the Gospel and the family because i was really relieved when i saw that he hadn’t touched my foto album of you guys. i love you guys very much.

so other than all that with the robbers, things were pretty good this week. we had to go into the offices a lot this week so we lost some time to work which i dont like at all but i guess its just something ya gotta do. while i was in the offices i watched some mormon messages. they are really powerful. you guys should watch them. i learneda lot from them.

this last week was good for my bday. i originally was just gonna to not tell anyone so we could stay focused, but my comp was the old secretary so he knows all the bdays and they surprised me with a tie that is in the other pic i will send. it was nice. i usually am not that big of a bday guy but my companino and elder taylor made it pretty nice haha.i wasreally grateful for that. also a family that has someone in it  that we helped baptize gave me a piece of cake. it was good. i am realy gratful for all the love that the people show me out here. i always tell people that they kinda convert into my family when they ask me if i miss mine.

but anyways, its kinda weird to think that its my last one i have since you usually have 2 on a missino but since i was home i didnt have one last year out her in yucatan. well also i got the card that last monday. i hadnt gone for the mail yet so dont worry i got the card. thanks for all the stuff everyone wrote it was pretty cool and i liked the card a lot. i love you guys a lot

Janel’s Note:  Stephen came down from Utah State to visit for part of the weekend, he spent most of his time in the service of others.  I included Stephen's Message to David this week which David replied to above as I was touched when reading it and wanted to share:

Hello brother ! Happy Birthday for Wednesday. Well, I've been learning a lot more important as it is a quote from President Monson - "Never let a problem that has to be solved become more important than the person who has to love."

Two days ago, this quote made me mourn - was a confirmation of a question I had. The quote is true and that day I decided to make a sacrifice to help someone , and it was well worth all the pain . I could not do all the work I wanted to do this weekend , but I helped several people to smile - in our family and beyond .

Now I think so - there are two people who could have become - one was someone who would have finished the task he had planned to do. After all, it is good to do your homework and be smart .

The other person is someone who has not completed the task, but that it has been an influence in the laughter of a grandmother, a mother's confidence, the love of a father, and has been the reason why a girl smiled and considered important. Well, I have become the second person, and gladly accept the consequences. c:

I love you brother !

hola familia! well this week was great. we had a rough month in september where it was the first month since my days in texas where we blanked but saturday we baptized 5 so it was pretty sweet.   i was super happy. i am glad that it is going well for you guys too. thats good you visited grandma as well. she looks happy and i like her hair. it looks like my great grandmother. this week was a special one for Elder Taylor, it is his last week. he might come to visit yall because he is going to utah on friday to see his sister get married.  i doubt he’ll have time to do it but if he does, it’ll be cool to see him. so that means i have a new comp. I’ll still be zone leader in chichen itza but Elder Jaussi is coming in. he’s pretty cool guy. we have the same time in the mission and he has been in the offices for a while so hes ready to work. haha just what i like.

 yesterday was the primary program. it reminded me of my primary days and how much a didn{t like singing hahaaha and how bad i was. i think i would say sorry to a lot of the people that tried teaching me during my younger days because i was kinda mischevous or however you spell that word. well i guess thats all i have to say about things that happened this week. as far as something spiritual, yesterday we ate with a recent convert and she asked us about tithing. God blesses and makes those that keep the commandments prosper in the land. and more than anything, ....... she needs to go to the temple to do the work for the dead and to prepare to seal herself to her husband. i know that the commandments are so important. i know that obedience is the first law of the heavens. we need to obey. it is so important. we need to do it for the right reasons. not to avoid consequences or to make leaders or parents happy. we need to do it because we love Christ and our Heavenly Father. we need to do it because we trust in Him and we have faith. we cant wait to keep a commandment because we think it will be easier todo later on. we need to do it immediately. today is the day of our salvation and God blesses us immediately. yall should read in mosiah 2 and alma 34 and also i think it is mateo 22 or  maybe 24 where it talks about the greatest commandment. and connect it with john 14 15. i love obedience scriptures. ahah its one of my favorite things to do. i wanna be captain dependable for God. i want him to trust in me because he knows that if he gives me an assignment or trust me with someone to help, that i will do it and that will be receptive to the spirit to do it. i love the example of President Monsons life. we watched the biography of him and it is amazing how he listens to the spirit and how he is so intune with it because he knows that God works through us to save others. thats why i want to be obedient. so i can have the sprit strongly enough to be able to listen to him when he tells me there is some one to cheer up or someone thats needs a smile or needs service or a blessing. I know that if i am obedient than power of the priesthood will be with me. well i am almost out of time now but thanks for all yall do for me and well i also hope you can understand wghat i said because i spelled some words wrong and sometimes i ramble on about something ahaha i try to write theses things inspired so hope ya like it. talk to ya later. love ya lots

mother, that dream almost made me cry...well almost is a stretch but it touched my heart. i love you so much....  you are my mother and one of the most important people in my life. you have done so much for me and i know that you will do a lot more for me so thanks for all that.  i love you so much.  i{ll be loving you always oh and my leg is fine and i got the card from anne but i{ll let ya know when i get it from you. thanks for everything

michelle if you want your friend to have a good experience for your friend at church, you can try to participate a lot in the classes and make sure you explain everything becase what we do is a lot different. explain it simply and ask her if she has any questions. try and introduce her to everyone and always be happy and set the  best example possible for her. pray a lot and pray that she will feel the spirit touch her heart becaseu the churches are really sacred places. the spirit is what she needs too feel. just make sure you explain things and ask her if she has any questions. andset a good example and pray. love ya lots

hello my family. conference was really great. we couldn’t{t go to the first session in the morning because we didn{t have any investigators, but the rest of it was really good. we went to a secretaries office to watch it in english because we really like hearing the voices of the apostles and prophets. it was a great conference. it was really interesting how President Monson said that the sunday morning conference was one of the most inspiring he had ever heard. it was. i really liked Elder Dallin H. Oaks talk. i heard president Uchtdorf gave a good one too. i think Elder Oaks{s was my favorite. Elder Perry and all the first presidencies talks in the priesthood session were really awesome as well. i really liked what Elder Oaks was talking about when he was saying how a lot of times we put things in front of God. we can not do that. it happens a lot however and most of the time we dont even notice. i was also moved by the love President Monson expressed for his dear wife. i hope one day i can express love in such a way for my future wife. it was really touching. he is a prophet of God and i know it is true.  i am so grateful for the modern day prophets that we have. i hope all of you learned something new and received revelation about how to better your lives. we exhorted a lot of people this past week to listen to the prophets voice. some listened to the call and were greatly blessed. unfortunately, some hardened their hearts or had other priorities and so they missed out on things that surely would have helped their lives much more. i guess today i wont talk a lot about what the prophets said because i feel like when i listen to conference it makes more impressions in my heart than words in my head and so it is hard to share what i learned. we had 3 people that i would have really liked to have listen to the conference. well a lot more than that but 3 people specifically that could have benefited from it. one is having problems with her husband and is less active .the other 2 are investigators. one is trying to find the true path to happiness and the other is trying to get out of debt and all that. all 3 should have gone. but they didn{t. i was really wondering why. it just seems so obvious to me why we need to listen to a prophet and how important it is and all that and i coudnt believe they didnt want to go. well they all had their reasons and i wont judge them for that but it was really sad because there were things in conference that could have helped them. i tell you this because sometimes we don’t trust in God enough or in his chosen servants. we think we can do it ourselves confiando en nuestra propia sabiduria. or trusting in our own wisdom. we need to trust in God more. this doesnt mean just sitting back and waiting for answers to come or waiting for the path to be shown. we have to press forward. always keeping the commandments, always remembering the holy covenants we have made and we have to DO things. we can’t be lazy or just wait. we have to take leaps of faith. even though they might not be very big ones, it is what we have to do to really progress in life. if we do it we will grow little by little and one day we will be recomisated for our efforts. its ok to make mistakes. like what President Uchtdorf said in the priesthood session. we will fall but we must get back up.  i have especially seen this to be true in the missionary work and from what i have seen and heard and learned, we are all missionaries. as the prophet said and as it was repeated various verses, now is the time for missionaries and members to work together. so dont ever stop moving or going forward. dont lose confidence in the Lord. never stop keeping the commandments and never forget your covenants. and most importantly, share the Gospel with everyone. this is what the Lord wants with all of us and it is for a wise purpose. well i love you guys a lot and I’ll try and send some pics. Adios
