Called to Serve

"Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work ... and faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualify him for the work." - D&C 4:3-5

hello

Well this week went by super fast.  Last Saturday we went to Campeche to a Stake Conference with President because the next Sunday afternoon we were going to give a training.  While there we listened to President  Salinas.  If you don’t remember, he was the mission president here before President Garcia.  He is so powerful.  He talked about a lot of really good stuff but probably the strongest was when he talked about obedience.  He said something like this:

"Sometimes we are obedient for different reasons: obligation, to be accepted, fear, so that we receive something, love, etc. this is not an exhaustive list.  There are many other reasons why people are obedient in the gospel but these are the most common.  The only thing is that they all bring different results:  Obligation usually leads to rebellion .... fear usually leads to not being able to endure to the end for getting tired; popularity or to be accepted usually leads to becoming a hypocrite; to receive a blessing usually leads to feeling descepted when we do not receive the blessing on our time table but obeying because we love Christ is the only true and pure motive.  It is the only one that will save us.  We need to have the right motives for everything we do.  This is what it teaches us in Moroni 7.  I would like to invite yáll to read Moroni 7 this week and try to apply it.

Well President Salinas shared a lot of other cool stufff like the importance to going to the temple.  He said not going to the temple regularly (here he said at least 1 a month but I am going to say once a week for you in Bountiful) is just as bad as not paying tithing.  It is just as bad as not going to church and not participating of the sacrament.  It is just as bad as not praying or studying the scriptures.  So I hope you guys are making the sacrifices to go to the temple at least once a week.  It is so important.

He gave us a list of things that we should do to hasten the work of salvation.  Hasting the work of salvation is what we need to do in the church and it is what the prophet has asked all of us to do.  He gave us 5 things to measure if we are hasting the work of salvation.  If you see that you are not doing at least 4 of these things you need to repent because you have not listened to the voice of God through His prophet Thomas S. Monson.  The five things are:

Since January, have you
1. Taught someone that has been baptized since January.
2. Invited a recent convert to dinner.
3. Become a friend of a less active member.
4. Participated in an ordinance in the temple for someone from your own family.
5. In your family home evenings, have the kids talked more than the parents?

Do your evaluation.  I am guessing that we all need to do improvements.  To help you to improve on this, I invite you to study Elder Uchtdorf´s talk from last general conference in the priesthood session. I think it is called sleeping through the restoration or something like that.

Well President Salinas also said that the reason why the prophet lowered the age for sister missionaries is because we need to raise righteous generations and to do that, we need more righteous mothers who know the gospel.  He said that one of the apostles said that the day will come when our children will come home from school and ask us why our family is different and then we will ask in what way are we different and our kids will say why do I have a mom and a dad and not two moms or 2 dads?  Then President Salins said that marriage between the same sexes is diabolic.  Wow super strong.  We need stronger parents who can teach their children right principles so that their children can govern themselves.  You guys should study Elder Anderson´s talk from last General Conference that is called spiritual whirlwinds I think.  He gave it on Saturday.

Well this week we worked in Campeche and we helped out a lot of people it was a good week.

Well I love you guys a lot and I hope you have a good week
