Called to Serve

"Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work ... and faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualify him for the work." - D&C 4:3-5

Hola mi familia!  How is it going?  Sorry I am writing a Little late its because we had a pretty crazy weekend again haha.

It sounds like all is going well in Utah.  Some good weather.  The weather here has cooled down a lot. It started with rain where we almost got stuck by lighting like 5 times. But ever since then it has been cool, well about 80 but to me it seemed like 60 haha.  Really nice weather.  I don’t think it will last much longer though ):

mc that sounds like a fun dance you had.  He seems like a pretty nice guy.  How are you doing in school?  I guess you are just about done now right.

Madre, that sounds fun with how you were playing with the dog.  I didn’t know who you were talking about last time but then I remembered you guys got a dog a little while ago.  But things are going well.  We had the reunión de liderazgo de la misión this last week and after that we went to go work in zona Campeche and champoton.  It went pretty good. the zone leaders from zona champoton are really strong. We went to a Little pueblo that is called seybaplaya.  We had visited it once before with the misión president and since then they have been going there to work 2 times a week. well it was pretty exciting to go there because if I am no longer assistant after this next change then I could be going there.

Well I had some pretty good experiences with teaching but probably the most important was one we had in barrio espernza in Campeche.  It is an área where both Elder Jaussi and Elder Robison have been before and they were my last 2 comps so that was fun to be in there old stomping grounds. But the lesson was good because we taught someone who had been taught a long time by the elders and had not been baptized yet.

His biggest problema was the principio de diezmo.  He just didn’t want to pay it so I thought of what I could say to him so that he could start receiving the blessings of tithing and be baptized.  I decided that the elders before had only explained the blessings of paying tithing but had never explained the consequences of not paying.  There are many consequences we receive when we do not pay tithing or keep any commandment for that matter, but one of the most explicit descriptions is that found in Alma 12.  It is pretty strong for a description.  It says we would be happier if we could command the mountains to fall over us than to present ourselves in front of God with our sins.

Like everyone else who has ever committed sin and started the repentance process, I too have felt the guilt of sin. I know that we feel real guilt when we are truly sad for the sins we commit. I also testify that the power of the atonement can help us to be cleaned of those sins and can help us to feel peace again in our lives. Repentance is a great Word. I try to apply it every day of my life.

Well on another note, I had a really cool experience with the power of prayer. When I was in Campeche, I came down with a cold.  I haven’t had one for a while and I think it is because since we started doing divisions, I have stopped eating so many oranges so I don’t get as much vitamin c. Well anyways, while we were sleeping, my sore throat changed from that to a cough. I woke up at like 4 in the morning and could not get back to sleep.  So I prayed to God that if it was his will, I could stop coughing just during the night so I could sleep because I felt really really tired.  Well the next thing I remember, I woke up to the alarm and I had slept the whole night without a single cough. It was a miracle and I am so thankful that God listens to prayers.  Even though I know God doesn’t measure time, he even listens at 4 in the morning. haha  Well I hope all yall have a great week and I hope we can all skype next week. love you guys a lot.

Hello family well this week was pretty crazy. We spent it out side of the area and write now it is another late night email but this time, not from Merida.  Right now we are in Campeche.  We are in a hotel right now because tomorrow, we are going to the end of the world as far as the mission is concerned aka Escarcega.  It’s a pueblito about 5 hours away from Merida.

Today was pretty crazy but I will tell you what happened early in the week first.

We did divisions the whole week and on Tuesday we did them with Arboleda.  They are zone leaders. Well since we are kinda in charge of opening up areas, I knew there was a pueblo outside of Merida in this area that is called San Pedro Chimay.  It has about 1000 people there according to google, but I think there aren’t quite so many.  Well anyways, it went pretty crazy.  It was a really good visit.  We are trying to set up a little rama or branch there. Unfortunately there is not a whole lot we can do because it is part of the stake and our mission president doesn’t have the keys to do that kind of stuff.

Well anyways it went well.  The pueblo is small but the members there are really strong even though they are kinda far away.  We found an incomplete family to teach.  We taught the wife of an ex missionary.  The wife wasn’t a member. ..........

Well that was the experience in San Pedro Chimay.  We went to some other pueblos today and one in particular is an amazing one.  It is called Pueblo Neuvo.  It is a really small one of about 400 people but 200 are members.  It is amazing. We are going to send missionaries there.  Maybe I will be sent there but I doubt it because I think President needs me for one more change. It’s a really good place though.  An awesome place because the people there are awesome.  Well it is late and I am tired so I think I am going to end my letter now. Love you guys.  Talk to you next week.

Hello family.  Well it’s another late email coming in from Merida.  Today we didn’t have time to write because yesterday we were in divisions and then I got a call and we needed to go the presidents house because he wanted us to go to his house so early in the morning so we could go to a baptism in telchaquillo a pueblito of 600 people where my comp was before coming here to this place.  It’s cool because I was involved in opening up this pueblo and sending missionaries there and now because of that, a family is closer to becoming eternal. Well after that we went down to seyba playa and we had to check out that pueblo.  It’s a little one on the beach about an hour south of campeche campeche. we saw some pretty cool birds there who were fishing it was funny because they would be flying and then do a nose dive in to the ocean and go for the fish. It makes me think of how Christ invited the apostles to be fishers of men.  That’s what I want to be all my life. Maybe I will end my mission there. It would be good there.  There were missionaries there before but they got taken out and after that happened, the church kinda disappeared in that place.

Also today we ate venado. or deer.  I was pretty happy to eat it because it reminds me of the deer in Bountiful.  I imagine you don’t see nearly as many now that you are down in the flatlands but they sure are annoying. I tell the people here they are like the dogs in the street here in Mexico haha

This week we did divisoins with some more elders and it went well.  I was with Elder Peterson again and he is doing well.  He was my comp in Caucel.  He´s a great guy.

This week was kinda rough though becasue all of the less active Catholics which is like 99% of them all turned catolicos de hueso colorado. or die hard catholics and didn’t want to listen.  It was annoying because this is their holy week where they remember Jesus.  We did a lot of contacting in the busses and they asked us what we do as Mormons for semana santa. i thought about it for a bit and responded that we don’t remember the atonement just one week of the year, we do it every day of our lives as we continue to repent continuously as we are trying to become perfect in Christ the Lord. I then explained the ordinances of the Santa Cena or the Sacrament. and how important it is for people who have had a baptismal covenant.  It is so important.  I could talk forever about the Santa Cena and the atonement but all I want to say is to study D&C 84.  I forgot which verse it is but before explaining the oath and covenant of the priesthood it says something like this: the power of God is made manifest in the ordinances (such as baptisms, confirmations, ordinations to priesthood, settings apart, healing and anointments, and THE SANTA CENA) then it says that not any person can see God´s faith and live unless he has the ordinances with him. This includes the Santa Cena.  I hope you can all partake of it worthily of the Santa Cena because it is the only ordinance that we repeat for ourselves. We need to prepare ourselves for the sacrament by getting to church with a broken heart and a contrite spirit. We need to repent well before partaking of the sacrament. We need to get to sacrament meeting early and not late as many are accustomed to do.  I invite all of you at home to remember the Savior in these moments. It’s a challenge that my first seminary teacher gave me.  It was that we all would only think of the Savior during the moments of the Santa Cena and nothing else. Try it. It will make it aloto powerful for you. try and read the hymns or just meditate. That is what I do.  As we partake of the sacrament weekly, it will be easier and easier to remember the Savior in every decision we make in the week which will help us to keep our baptismal covenant.

I really enjoy the letters from the bishop in the ward.  It makes me wish there were bishops and wards like the ones we have there in Utah as the ones we have here.

Well it is pretty late and I am kinda tired because it was a long day but I just wanted you guys to know all is well and I  bought another hammock. Well I love you guys and hope you have a great week. Happy Easter.  Remember the atonement.

love you guys
